Rachel Frances “Frankie” Shaw was born on November 11, 1986 in Massachusetts. Frankie grew up in Brookline, Massachusetts. Her mother is from South Boston and raised her Jewish. She graduated from Barnard College of Columbia University with a degree in English literature. She is an American actress who has also done a fair amount of producing, directing, and writing. Frankie is quickly on her way to becoming a major force in Hollywood. SMILF is based on her short film of the same name, which won the Short Film Jury Prize for Fiction at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival. She serves as the series’ showrunner and, true to her feminist roots, each episode is directed by a female director.
Shaw can be seen on the big screen in Roadside Attractions’ STRONGER, based on the book by the same name by Jeff Bauman and Bret Witter, opposite Jake Gyllenhaal and Tatiana Maslany with David Gordon Green directing. Shaw also wrote, directed and appeared opposite Zoë Kravitz, Teresa Palmer, Nate Corddry and Clark Gregg in the short TOO LEGIT, which premiered at Sundance in 2016. The satire – based on Congressman Todd Akin’s controversial 2012 remarks about rape and pregnancy – then aired on MTV.
Other acting credits include MR. ROBOT, FLAKED, MIXOLOGY, TOUGH COOKIE, the TV series and subsequent film BLUE MOUNTAIN STATE and the independent films LULLABY, THE FREEBIE, THE PRETTY ONE and SOMEONE MARRY BARRY.
A native of Boston, Shaw currently lives in Los Angeles with her husband and son.
